I had been wanting to try making chocolate brownies for a while now and looked into a few recipes before settling on the Tasty Buzzfeed recipe. I like using their recipes as they go through the trial and error to find the perfect recipe so you don't have to. I cut the original recipe down to 1/3 to make a smaller batch and mixed in crushed M&Ms.

If you've had issues making brownies in the past, have a look at the recipe link above as it also goes through common issues and how they are fixed.

Fills a 6"x6" pan. I would suggest doubling this recipe for an 8" or 9" square pan.

Ingredients

  • 75g chocolate (dark or milk)

  • 8g cocoa powder

  • 95g melted butter

  • 135g granulated sugar

  • 35g dark brown sugar

  • 2/3tsp vanilla

  • 2/3tsp salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 45g plain flour

  • 15g cocoa powder

  • Optional: chocolate chunks/nuts/crushed M&Ms

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees (fan)

  2. Put chocolate and 8g cocoa powder into heatproof jug

  3. Melt butter and pour over chocolate, mix gently and then leave to melt

  4. Mix sugars, vanilla, salt and eggs and whip for 10 mins (if using a stand mixer you can do this step first and leave it to whip whilst melting the chocolate

  5. Pour in chocolate mixture and mix in

  6. Fold in flour and remaining cocoa powder

  7. Mix in chocolate chunks/nuts/crushed M&Ms

  8. Pour into lined baking pan and add extra topping

  9. Bake for 30 mins, remove and tap hard on counter to crack top

  10. Bake for another 15 mins

  11. Remove from oven and leave to cool

  12. Serve warm with ice cream (you can reheat the brownie later too!)
